International Baccalaureate (IB)
IB for students aged 16 to 18
Students wishing to enter the International Baccalaureate at ESCAAN must have achieved 5 ‘C’ Grades or above in their IGCSE or equivalent Examinations (a ‘C’ Grade or above in English is required).
The IB is a two-year programme offered to students from different cultural, linguistic and educational backgrounds.
COMPULSORY SUBJECTS IBO
The obligatory components which comprise the IB are:
1. Creativity, Action and Service (CAS)
2. The Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
3. Dissertation
CAS covers activities from theatre productions and sports clubs to voluntary work for the old and disabled.
TOK is a mixture of seminars and conferences and, above all, a course on critical and rigorous thought.
Dissertation develops abilities in investigative methods and the presentation of a formal document.

OPTIONAL SUBJECTS IN GROUP
The IB Coordinator will interview each student in order to determine the appropriate choice of Options.
The subjects on offer are outlined below, but your choice of 3 Higher Level and 3 Standard Level subjects is constrained by the International Baccalaureate and ESCAAN.
As well as the compulsory subjects, you must choose 6 subjects from the following groups, 3 at Standard Level and 3 at Higher Level. 5 must be from groups 1-5 and the sixth can be from another subject in group 1-5 or one from group 6
- GROUP 1: FIRST LANGUAGES
- GROUP 2: SECOND LANGUAGE
- GROUP 3: INDIVIDUALS AND SOCIETY
- GROUP 4: EXPERIMENTAL SCIENCES
- GROUP 5: MATHS
- GROUP 6: ARTS
The IB Coordinator will interview each student in order to determine the appropriate choice of Options.
We also offer students the opportunity to combine with the A-levels (British system) from Cambridge University. This allows students an alternative route to entering university.
